Donations & Needs

“Love the poor, that through them you may also find mercy.” –St. Isaac the Syrian

Your support is essential for the parishes, schools and building improvement projects in Haiti. Your monetary gifts will be used for:

  • Building and maintaining our churches
  • Starting an Orthodox summer camp at St. Augustine’s
  • Helping to found mission churches
  • Feeding children while at school
  • Refurbishing space for a medical clinic

Both churches in Haiti require maintenance, and in the case of St. Augustine’s, some finishing touches. The school at St. Augustine’s (ICOSA) is in need of a multitude of building repairs. It is our hope to provide updated classrooms, complete half-finished buildings, construct an adequate kitchen and bathroom structure, supply a library for spiritual reading (in French) and to construct an appropriate medical clinic. We strive to avoid “toxic” charity that is not useful and non-sustainable.

Donations FAQs

What types of items are needed in Haiti?

Mostly monetary gifts. There is a need for church items (icons, candles, incense and more) as well as medical supplies and Orthodox books in French.

Should I send money or gifts directly to Haiti?

No. We have set up a streamlined way to send money to Haiti without incurring the usual fees. Mail in Haiti does not resemble in any way the mail in our own countries as far as efficiency or any guarantees.

Can I donate monthly on an automatic basis?

Yes. The monthly option is the most beneficial for budget planning and future projects. Please prayerfully consider this as your gift choice.

Can I donate by check?

Yes. If you would like to contribute by check please send to St Maximus Orthodox Church c/o Haitian Mission, 4447 Gaskill Rd, Owego, NY 13827. Checks can be made payable to St Maximus/ Haiti..
