The Institut Chrétien S. Augustin (ICOSA) opened on time in September 2007, with a student body of approximately 400 in two sessions (predominantly older children and adults in the afternoon session). Initial construction costs for the classrooms on Mission Property at Cyvadier, Jacmel, have all been paid for through the generosity of our supporters.

In July 2008 the thirty or so students who completed their final year of primary education (the highest level offered by the school in its first year) underwent national Ministry of Education examinations. Every one of them passed — a remarkable achievement.

This, however, presents us with a problem. Either ICOSA must now add an additional class (first year of secondary education) — or send those students off to secular or Roman Catholic schools (assuming they can afford it). Construction of additional classrooms (a second floor on the original building, designed for it) has already begun (more space needed as well to get two classes out of the nave of the church).

For 2008-9, we hope as well to add music classes. To this end, just about any playable musical instruments would be most welcome (but no pianos, please!).
